The challenge
We have worked on several projects with AAM Powertrain over the years – jobs of all shapes and sizes. We were approached in 2020 during the pandemic to complete some work for AAM. Whilst many years ago they had been supplied some standard APR (adjustable pallet racking) for their outside storage area, their previous supplier didn’t specify galvanised steel. Over the years, therefore, the racking had started to rust and had been condemned.
The solution
We took away their old condemned racking and supplied new, fully galvanised Sperrin pallet racking. The racking we supplied is specifically designed to be outside and withstand the weather conditions. The customer was also looking to store heavy duty IBCS, so the racking had to be particularly robust, taking around 3 tonnes per storage level. The layout was based around a counterbalance forklift truck.
The outcome
Overall, the customer was extremely pleased with the ability of Alternative Storage Systems to see the problem and come up with the best solution within budget. The customer was now able to maximise their outside storage space without having to worry about the racking deteriorating over the years. Also, the customer no longer has to worry about overloading on his storage levels as we supplied the correct duty of frames and beams.
