The challenge
Hague Print have been an exiting customer of ours for over 10 years, our team having worked closely with them on several of their sites ranging from pallet racking, mezzanine floors, shelving, and security caged areas.
They acquired the keys to their brand-new distribution centre in Normanton, Wakefield and got in touch with us straight away to come and view the site and to carry out a site survey. On our first visit the client walked us through the empty shell and described the vision he had for this new warehouse. He had just won a large new contract and needed enough storage space for around 1500 pallets. The client’s initial idea was to use an existing reach truck he had at another site as he wanted to cut down on costs across the project.
The solution
Following our site survey, we produced several different layout options for the customer in order to gauge suitability and appetite. We designed a layout for both the client’s existing reach truck and a new flexi forklift truck. We also provided the client with 2 phased layouts: the 1st phase including only part of the racking and the 2nd phase being the completed warehouse. This was a key factor as, in order to keep within budget, we could achieve the client initial 1500 pallets in phase 1.
The decision was made that the reach truck layout was most beneficial as a flexi truck was an expense that hadn’t been accounted for at that time. The client placed the order on phase 1 and Alternative Storage Systems supplied brand new Mecalux pallet racking ranging from 8m and 9m with some low-level picking levels for the client’s pick and pack operation.
The outcome
As always, Hague were a pleasure to work with, allowing us to use our expertise to advise them and remaining open to suggestions throughout. We worked together throughout the whole project to create the most beneficial solution to their challenges, with the works going exactly to plan and the client expressing his happiness that we were able deliver on his vision.
All of our drawings have been finalised for phase 2 and we hope to work together to achieve the end goal very soon.
