Mezzanine Floors
NEW & USED equipment availableToo many business owners think of warehouse capacity in two dimensions, with available floor space being the limiting factor when it comes to just how many products, pallets, or other goods their facility can take. But before you write off your existing warehouse and move elsewhere, why not take a look… up?
If your warehouse has a high ceiling but is limited by floor area, installing a mezzanine floor could be the most cost-effective way of unlocking additional space within your existing unit, and all without the costs, inconvenience, and drop in productivity that can come with a warehouse relocation.

Used these guys to install a mezzanine at our Leisure business Clip ‘n Climb, Leeds. They had a two week window from start to finish and we did it. A great job with a great finish. Many thank Clive and Chris and the team.

Get in touchWhat is a mezzanine floor?
A mezzanine floor could best be described as an intermediate floor level installed between the main or original floors of a building. Usually retrofitted at some point after the building has been completed, it can provide useful additional space for all manner of purposes, from storage or offices to retail or display, helping you maximise your space and improve productivity.
Can you supply pre-owned as well as new mezzanine floors?
Yes, we can. Unlike most firms, we supply and install both new and second hand mezzanine floors to companies throughout the UK. Providing the same level of utility as a new mezzanine at a significantly lower cost, used mezzanine floors are fantastic, great value way of adding significantly greater value and ROI to your warehouse.
We almost always have a number of pre owned mezzanine floors in stock. To request a quote, please get in touch.
What other types of mezzanine floors are there?
There are three main types of mezzanine floor commonly found in the UK. These are as follows…
- Industrial mezzanine floors – Heavy duty, seriously robust structures designed to be used in heavy commercial, industrial, or other manufacturing/fabrication settings. They can also be found in many retail and leisure environments.
- Office mezzanine floors – These provide useful additional office space for administrative staff, located conveniently above your existing ground floor operations.
- Multi-tier mezzanine floors – Perfect for warehouses with extremely high ceilings, these help guarantee maximum storage density by making using of the vertical space within a facility.

I need more storage but can’t afford any downtime or disruption. Is that possible?
Yes, it is, although that could depend upon a number of different factors. Having worked in industrial storage for more than 30 years, we’re experts in installing shelving, racking and mezzanines with minimal or even no drop in productivity. Our ability to do this will depend upon the nature of your work, the size and layout of your facility, your working hours and so on.
If this is a concern to you, simply get in touch. A member of our installation team will be on hand to help.
I need a solution in place ASAP. How quickly can you deliver?
Quickly! We understand that, for our clients, time is money. And lost time and productivity means both revenue and profit are taking a hit. Whilst we’re able to provide brand new storage systems with a modest lead time, unlike most firms we almost always hold a huge stock of pallet racking, industrial shelving and even mezzanine floors. Not only do these offer exceptional value for money, they’re also available almost immediately.
Can you install as well as supply?
100%. Unlike many industrial storage specialists, we don’t just supply shelving, pallet racking or mezzanine systems. Instead, our time-served, SEIRS approved installation teams will also install it for you as well. By choosing Alternative Storage Systems, you’re not only getting the benefit of the equipment warranty, but we’ll also guarantee the quality of our installation service, too.
What’s more, our in-house design team will also design a storage solution to suit the specific requirements of your business and warehouse, completely free of charge.
How do I know what type of storage system I need? And how much I can fit in my warehouse?
Easy… we’ll tell you! With more than three decades of industry experience, our time-served experts are perfectly placed to advise on the most appropriate solution for your warehouse. From mezzanines and pallet racking to shelving and beyond, they’ll take the time to get to know you, your facility and your challenges, carrying out a detailed on-site assessment before making their professional recommendations. That’ll include the type of storage system you need, and the amount of storage (e.g. the storage density or pallet count etc.) your facility can take.
I have a limited budget. Can you still help me?
Absolutely. As a family business built on family values, we’re focused on value and customer service rather than our bottom line. We love working with companies with a lower budget – or those who simply don’t see the need to invest in brand new equipment – and offer a range of great value and pre-owned shelving, pallet racking and even mezzanine floors to suit almost all budgets.
I have limited floor space in my warehouse. How can I get more space without relocating?
The answer to this question depends in part upon how much additional storage space you need, and what you’re looking to do with all of that extra space.
If your products are non-palletised and you’re already using all of your available floorspace for shelving, either a multi-tier shelving system or a mezzanine floor (with additional shelving on top) could be the way forward. If you keep all of your products on pallets, however, then either a narrow aisle or a drive in / drive through pallet racking system might be ideal.
Whatever storage challenge you’re facing, we’re here to help. With over 30 years of industrial storage experience, we’ll be able to assess your unit and your requirements before recommending the best value and most appropriate solution for your business.
My warehouse has an odd or awkward layout. Is there a storage solution that will work?
Yes, absolutely. There are a number of options here, depending upon the nature of your inventory, your target storage density or pallet count, the height of your warehouse and more!
If you stock non-palletised items then industrial shelving could be perfect thanks to its ability to be configured into any number of of layouts.
If you hold palletised items, however, we can design and supply a bespoke pallet racking system specifically designed around your unit’s unique layout.
If you have limited floor space but need to add additional storage or office/display space, it may be possible to install a mezzanine floor that will sit directly above your ground floor, and all without disrupting your existing operations. No matter how unusual your unit’s floorplan, we can help you get the most out of it.
Can mezzanine floors be relocated?
Absolutely. Just because a mezzanine floor is in one position or structure, doesn’t mean it can’t be moved. Mezzanines can be dismantled and moved (albeit with great care) if you wanted to move to a new facility and take the floor with you. If that’s something you’re interested in, please get in touch. We can then assess your mezzanine and your new warehouse before carefully dismantling, relocating an installing your floor. Typically, mezzanine floors are not fixed structures so they can be moved at any time.
Do I need planning permission to install a mezzanine floor?
It’s very unlikely that you’ll need planning permission to build a mezzanine floor. That said, you may need to get building regulations approval from your local council (if required). Reasons for this could include…
- If the mezzanine is being used for office space or work purposes
- If the mezzanine covers any areas that require planning permission
- If the mezzanine will involve external alterations to your building
- If it’s going to be used for office or retail usage of over 200 sqm
