Fine Line VAR – heavy duty pallet racking and lower level picking levels

The challenge

Fineline VAR approached us having just acquired a new warehouse facility. Their current warehouse was in the south of England and they were looking to move the entire operation north in order to work alongside their headquarters.

They had previously only had low level shelving in place but, due to the company’s rapid growth, they now needed to store a lot more whole pallets. The initial discussions centred around the suggestion that the new warehouse would be a reach truck operation. Following our suggestion that a flexi forklift approach would make more sense this route was taken instead, increasing the number of pallet locations, giving the company more than enough space to accommodate the required pallet count, and allowing the business space to grow in the future whilst not having to worry about changing their current operation.

The solution

Having agreed on the flexi forklift truck application, we designed a layout using second hand pallet racking and a mixture of new and used decking for the levels. The pallet racking we supplied was by Apex and was a system that we already had in stock due to recently decommissioning one of our other customer’s sites. The decision to use a mixture of new and used decking came when the customer had decided to incorporate lower level picking levels in the racks. We used second hand decks for the bulk storage levels and new decks for the picking levels.

The outcome

The project was a complete success with the client being made to feel as ease, safe in the knowledge that the job was never going to run over or fall short of the target date.

We worked within budget but, most of all, had the racking installed and signed off before the move in date, allowing the customer to load the racking up straight away, causing less down time to his business in the process. Further to the initial project, we’ve since been given several more order from the customer including individual leg protectors, end of row racking protection barriers, and a yearly inspection report The client even left us a 5-star google review expressing how happy he was with our work.
