The challenge
GMP Manufacturing were moving premises into much larger warehouse which had two rooms available for storage. One of the rooms was a temperature-controlled room and the other a standard main room with the latter being used for all of the client’s bulk storage.
GMP had purchased some of the pallet racking the previous occupant had had in place and requested that we try to incorporate as much of that as possible.
The temperature controlled room was being installed and was needed remain constantly operational at a set temperature in order to preserve the products inside. Both rooms had a target pallet count they needed to reach.
The solution
After the initial site survey was completed, we had the take-off of the amount of racking we needed to incorporate. Working in conjunction with our site survey team, our in-house designers produced an AutoCAD layout showing the optimal positioning of the racking for both rooms, highlighting which parts of the layout comprised their existing racking and which would need require additional racking in order to reach the required pallet count.
We designed both room layouts to be operated by a Flexi forklift truck which allowed the customer to operate a very small aisle whilst being able to make use of height of the rooms. We also supplied good quality second hand racking in a mixture of Link 51 and Dexion systems.
The outcome
The customer was very pleased with the project from start to finish, and expressed his happiness that he was able to incorporate as much of his existing racking as possible. This help both parties stay within their target price and contributed to a continuing working relationship, with our maintenance team carrying out yearly pallet racking inspection for both rooms.
