The challenge
Professional tiling equipment supplier, Rocatex, were referred to us by another of our customers, FineLine VAR, after we completed their own warehouse project in the same area.
Having moved into a new warehouse, Rocatex had contracted a different company to design and supply them with a pallet racking system. Feeling like they weren’t getting the most out of their storage capacity, they made contact with Alternative Storage Systems. We arranged a site meeting and, almost immediately, highlighted that the racking hadn’t been set in the optimal way. The warehouse was beginning to become more and more overcrowded, and they weren’t able to store as many pallets as they needed to. What’s more, having recently changed suppliers, a lot of their new products would be entering the warehouse on a different sized pallet which really wasn’t suited to this type of racking.
The solution
After completing the initial site survey, we used AutoCAD to design the new layout for the customer. This new layout maximised the storage space available within the warehouse, and was designed to accommodate a counterbalance forklift. We part-exchanged the client existing racking as we were unable to use it.
The new warehouse layout had a much clearer flow and allowed the client to get all of their pallet count onto the the racks without any pallets taking up valuable floorspace. We supplied good quality second hand pallet racking (Stow) which we had recently removed from another site.
The outcome
The project was a success, having addressed the client’s concerns early on and allowing us to work together to come up with the best possible solution. The client had previously been worried that, to achieve their target pallet count, they may have to swap their forklift. We reassured the client straight away that this was a design issue, and that the current forklift would be sufficient.
